Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing is based on the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-yoku, and involves immersing oneself in the forest as deeply as possible, awakening all the senses to the sights, sounds, scents and sensations of the forest and engaging in forest-based activities which encourage our connection with the natural world. Forest Bathing lowers blood pressure and cortisol levels, relaxing the nervous system and reducing stress. Studies have also found forest bathing improves mental clarity, focus and productivity, and enhances mental well-being. For this reason, forest bathing is very beneficial for those who spend a lot of time indoors or in front of a computer. Forest bathing has also been shown to boost NK cells in the body, which fight cancer cells; as little as two hours in the forest environment is said to be able to double NK cells.

Fiona is a forest guide and forest bathing facilitator, who appreciates the role of nature and the forest in her own health and well-being. She integrates qigong, guided meditation, yoga, forest art and sound bathing into her one-to-one and group forest bathing sessions.
